Bridal bingo

I watched "The Wedding Crashers" on Sunday afternoon and was delighted to see the two protagonists taking bets on elements of the wedding they were at. It brought back fond memories of the game of "Bridal Bingo" my friend Paul and I concocted at a wedding nearly 3 years ago.

The rules are simple. Create a list of wedding cliches (it helps if you've been to a few or at least watch sappy movies), then tick them off as the wedding progresses. There's no winner and no prize, except for the pleasure of having the groom's grandmother turn around and glare at you while you're straddling the pew, fingers raised in a V-sign and screaming "Bingo!" after Pachelbel's Canon begins to play.

I'm set to attend two large weddings this summer and I fully intend to make the most of this opportunity by compiling an exhaustive list of bingo possibilities. I've got 1 Corinthians 13 ("love is patient, love is kind..."), ghastly bridesmaid's dresses (shiny preferably), drunk father of the bride...

I know! That last comment was actually based on Emma's diatribe against shiny dresses on Sunday night.

And I would have thought you'd want to discourage the game. You'll be the one trying to say your vows with people shouting "Howzat" at you!

My favorite ever rant about weddings comes from one dear to your heart Dave...None other than the voluptuous J-Lo. In 'The Wedding Planner' she ends an angry outburst with something like 'I only give the wedding six months. Do you know what colour she chose for her bridesmaids dresses? Teal. The colour of gangrene'

Maybe you can find out if the whole 'pinging the glass to make the couple kiss' is a worldwide tradition or just a Canadian/North American thing... That still blows my mind with weirdness.
